DNA Baser Network Edition
The INI file

DNA Sequence Assembly - Network Edition

You can give several special commands to DNA Baser through a INI file. The program looks for a [License] section in this INI file. Under this section you can add the following entries/commands:

Server=<IP address> or <master name>

It overrides the UDP broadcast that DNA Baser generally uses to locate the master, and will let it work on networks that block UDP broadcasts, or over the Internet. It will also allow one program to have multiple masters, to get around the 255 computer limit on a single master. Note that this does NOT eliminate the need for UDP, only the need for broadcasts. The master name is not case-sensitive.

Key=<name>, <key>

For master only.

DNA Baser will try to silently collect the name and key you provided in this entry. If it is successful, this line is removed from the INI file; if not, it is ignored. Note that the <key> portion cannot contain spaces or any punctuation (other than the dashes that are part of a key to begin with). The comma between the name and key is optional, you can use a space instead if you wish. Both the name and the key are still limited to 255 characters apiece.

PortableKey=<name>, <key>

If the name/key listed in this entry is a valid Portable Key (in the same format as for Key=, above), DNA Baser will use it, instead of using the local key installed in the current computer (if any).

ServerKey=<name>, <key>

Same as the Key= entry (above), but for master keys.

Timeout=<seconds>

It s overrides the amount of time the DNA Baser waits for a response. The default value is three seconds, and should be sufficient for most purposes.

Redirect=<absolute path for the redirected INI file>

Once this setting is turned on in the INI file under the executable's directory, DNA Baser will access the redirected INI file instead of the local INI file. The redirected INI file should have the same format as before.

See the example below or use the sample file provided.

File details

The INI file must be located in program's folder. Its name must be the same as the name of the application (but the extension will be INI instead of EXE). For example, if DNA Baser client is located in "C:\DNA Baser\Dna Baser v3 Client.exe" you need to create a INI file called "DNA Baser v3 Client.INI" in the same folder.

If the INI file already exists, you can simply add the desired section/entries in it.

Forcing the client to connect to a master

The client is searching the entire subnetwork for the master. You can force the client to look for the master at a specified address with a INI file that looks like this:

[LICENSE]

Server=192.168.0.1

(Note: instead of 192.168.0.1 use the IP address of your master computer. On the Master computer, run the 'ipconfig' command in a DOS box to find computer's IP).
